WHO Partners with TikTok to Promote Reliable Health Information

The World Health Organization (WHO) and TikTok have announced a 1 year partnership to provide real science-based health knowledge by means of videos. This partnership will help tackle misinformation and improve health literacy and encourage healthy behaviours on a global scale using TikTok wide reach.

TikTok, with over 1 billion users globally, will leverage its platform to help promote credible medical information, making it easily accessible. The partnership will emphasise on converting scientific and complex health topics into fun, snack-length video content to help influencers through TikTok's creator learning programs make health information meaningful and relatable.

The campaign will also utilize WHO's Fides network, a coalition of more than 800 health content creators that combat misinformation and boost evidence-based messaging. Fides has been a powerful source of credible health communication on social media, touching over 150 million people across platforms since its launch in 2020.

Dr Jeremy Farrar, WHO Chief Scientist said, "By working with platforms like TikTok, we help people access credible information and engage in scientific discourse, shaping a healthier future for all.”

Valiant Richey, TikTok’s Global Head of Trust and Safety Outreach, echoed the importance of this partnership, noting TikTok’s commitment to raising health awareness and supporting mental well-being through reliable content.

This partnership represents further progress in reaching a larger, diverse population, particularly youth and other stakeholders in the digital space.
