The Union Health Minister recently urged hospitals to consider implementing a digital hospital information system, emphasizing its crucial role in ensuring data security, interoperability and quality healthcare. Addressing a virtual event organized by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH) on World Patient Safety Day, JP Nadda said that providing digitization in healthcare will help in reducing paperwork and also enhance interoperability and streamline access to patient information across care delivery points.
He also commented on the ongoing initiatives of the government to expand digital healthcare further, particularly through telemedicine and e-health services in remote locations which have been a lifesaver for patients who relied on remote consultations due to limited access to specialized care.
The introduction of India’s digital health standards in September 2023, has over 100 hospitals certified and many more are expected to be.
The initiative was launched to standardize Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in order to connect the dots between various players and enable a seamless ecosystem for healthcare industry, said Rizwan Koita, NABH Chairman.
Among several projects of NABH, E-Mitra Chatbot, Mitra Physical Centres, e-skilling modules and architects empanelment system are some which will help in transforming healthcare sector in India more effective, transparent and above all patient-centric.
