A young male who recently traveled from a country endemic to Mpox has tested positive for the presence of Mpox West African Clade 2. This strain of Mpox is however different from the ongoing current public health emergency pertaining Clade 1 of Mpox.
The government has clarified in its official release this is an isolated case, similar to 30 cases reported in India from July 2022. The patient is clinically stable and isolated in a designated tertiary care isolation facility. Contact tracing and monitoring are actively in place to ensure the situation is in contained.
Three government hospitals, Lok Nayak Jai Prakash, GTB and Saheb Ambedkar have set up isolation rooms for suspected and confirmed cases of Mpox.
