Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched U-WIN, an advanced online portal that aims to modernize India's immunization tracking for pregnant women and children. This initiative under the National Health Mission (NHM), enhances vaccine accessibility and strengthens data accuracy across the healthcare system.
U-WIN (Universal Immunization Web-enabled Network), is a centralized, digital registry designed to document and track vaccinations more efficiently. This marks the departure of traditional manual record-keeping methods that are often prone to errors. The platform’s universal accessibility helps capture vaccination records from both public and private healthcare providers, creating the most comprehensive immunization registry in India.
Key Features:
- User-Friendly Registration: Eligible participants (pregnant women and children up to 16 years of age) can easily register using a government ID and mobile number. This creates a personalized profile with real-time access to immunization history.
- Detailed Vaccine Tracking: U-WIN meticulously manages vaccination records of 12 vaccine-preventable diseases. Each dose administered is updated in the system and on the digital vaccination card, providing a comprehensive overview of an individual's vaccination journey.
- SMS Alerts and Notifications: To prevent missed doses, U-WIN sends SMS reminders before each vaccine is due. This enhances timely administration and adherence to vaccination schedules.
- Enhanced Flexibility: Available in 11 regional languages, parents can self-register on the U-WIN web portal or app, book vaccination appointment in centers across the country and access digital vaccination certificates with QR codes for easy verification and record access.
- On-the-Spot Vaccination Support: While U-WIN offers digital convenience, routine, walk-in vaccinations remain available at designated centers.
U-WIN targets 29 million pregnant women and 26 million infants each year, improving vaccine follow-up in underserved areas and ensuring vaccination of "zero-dose" children. By combining digital innovation with accessible healthcare services, U-WIN is transforming immunization practices in India, contributing to a healthier future for all.
