Tata Memorial Hospital oncologists have strongly refuted claims made by Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu about his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s recovery from stage 4 cancer through a dietary regimen. Sidhu, in a widely circulated video, attributed her recovery to practices such as intermittent fasting, avoiding sugar and dairy, consuming turmeric, neem water and apple cider vinegar. He claimed these methods played a critical role in her survival.
However, Dr. CS Pramesh, Director of Tata Memorial Hospital, clarified that her recovery was due to evidence-based treatments, including surgery and chemotherapy. “These are unscientific and baseless recommendations. She got surgery and chemotherapy that were evidence-based, which is what made her cancer-free. Not the haldi, neem, etc.,” he said.
A statement signed by 262 oncologists from Tata Memorial Hospital cautioned the public against following unproven remedies, emphasizing that cancer treatments like surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy remain the only clinically proven methods to combat the disease effectively. The doctors warned that delays in seeking proper medical treatment could jeopardize lives.
While alternative therapies such as Ayurveda may provide complementary support, experts highlighted the lack of scientific evidence supporting claims that these methods could cure cancer independently. “Cancer is curable if detected early and treated with proven interventions,” the statement emphasized.
Doctors urged patients to consult oncology specialists for guidance and avoid being influenced by unverified health claims.
